Spring Styles: Hudson Jeans 26
For as long as Hudson has been around, they’ve always been one of my favorite brands
of jeans. They have the perfect balance of classic style and rebelliousness that I’m always looking for. It’s
hard to find this particular combination, because I guess there aren’t too many women who are both punk rock
and classic. But as any fashion expert will tell you, this is a growing look, and Hudson is smart to be on
top of this trend. And because with Hudson jeans, 26—my preferred size—is so easy to find, they’re definitely
one of my personal favorite jeans companies.
Although they cultivate a very pronounced British character, the Hudson Jeans company
is actually from the United States. They were founded in downtown Los Angeles in 2002, and they’ve steadily
grown since them, branching out first into boutique stores and later into larger department stores such as
Nordstrom’s and others. But still, even though they’ve gone the department store route, they’re no less cool.
The British style gives them a cheeky, youthful, authentic character, and they’re always perfectly
made.
For me, when it comes to Hudson Jeans, 26 is the perfect waist size. Depending on
which style I get, they usually fit right above the hips, not quite low-rise but also not high at all.
They’re right there in the middle, which makes them perfect. They look good with practically any top—from a
sweater, to a t-shirt, to a button-up blouse, and they’re great with high heels, sandals, tennis shoes, or
pretty much any other type of footwear. I’ve found that Hudson Jeans 26 tend to go with everything in my
closet, which is always a great relief.
According to the company website, Hudson jeans are still based in Los Angeles to this
day, but their jeans are crafted in Italy and Japan, where they’re made to be one-of-a-kind. You can’t say
this about most jean companies, which churn out pair after pair of exactly identical jeans. I prefer
companies like Hudson, where each pair looks a little different, and you have to actually try them on to make
sure they fit right.
There are many companies, which shall remain nameless, whose sizes are so exact that,
once you know them, you don’t even have to try them on. This may seem like a good thing to some people, but
to me it indicates that there’s not much personality or craftsmanship going into them, which often means that
they shrink more quickly and that they don’t age well.
With Hudson Jeans, 26 is sort of a general estimation of the jeans’ size. I still have
to go into the dressing room and make sure that it fits me the way I expect a 26 to.
In the end, while Hudson Jeans can be a little pricey, it’s definitely worth the price
for jeans that have character, are well crafted, and that go with practically anything. I don’t know about
you, but I’d pay a lot for that.
